Diagenode gains exclusive license for ChIPmentation technology
September 28, 2018

Diagenode, a leading global provider for complete solutions for sample preparation and epigenetics research, has now gained exclusive rights to the ChIPmentation technology which it launched late last year from the Research Center of Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (CEMM). The ChIPmentation system encompasses a unique methodology that integrates chromatin immunoprecipitation with a ligation-free library preparation for high-throughput sequencing , ChIPmentation.

Diagenode’s ChIPmentation, based on the well-studied “tagmentation” technology, is designed to make ChIP-seq easier and much faster, making it more accessible to new researchers who may not be well-versed with the method. ChIPmentation combines both chromatin immunoprecipitation and library preparation using transposase and sequencing-compatible adaptors within the same protocol. Because the method results in reduced material loss, smaller starting amounts can be used, enabling the use of ChIP-seq in a wider range of projects such as those using rare cell types.

“Our exclusive license agreement with the CeMM for ChIPmentation reinforces our commitment to furthering epigenetics research as we are now able to dedicate more resources to further this technology and its adoption,” said Didier Allaer, CEO of Diagenode. “Diagenode has released a new manual solution for histone ChIPmentation, and will soon release a similar solution for transcription factors. We look forward to launching more customized solutions and services using ChIPmentation as a result of our new agreement.”
“Our ChIPmentation system represents true innovation in ChIP-seq,” said Jerome Kroonen, Ph.D., Global Marketing Manager at Diagenode. “The protocol eliminates the tedious steps, purifications, and inefficiencies that can result from standard ChIP-seq protocols. Additionally, researchers will have more options available for ChIPmentation including specifically optimized solutions for histones and transcription factors for tricky samples as we launch more kits.”

Kroonen also elaborated, “Initially the company launched an automated ChIPmentation system which incorporated the ChIPmentation protocol on its signature automation instrument, the IP-StarⓇ Compact Automated System. As a result of dedicating more resources to developing solutions that our customers seek, we now provide the first solution for manual ChIPmentation, providing more flexibility for researchers.”
